Norfolk Poems

Norfolk Poems is a collaboration with poet and interdisciplinary artist Jasleen Chadha, created in late 2020 during Jasleen’s residency at an artistic retreat in Norfolk. It is a series of short musical sketches set to poems on various animals and plants in nature.

The music is texturally dense, incorporating acoustic and electronic sounds, field recordings, percussion, audio from ASMR and gardening videos, and my own voice (breathing, chattering teeth etc.). My aim was to create a constantly shifting bed of sound under Jasleen’s voice, wrapping around her words, following her cadence, responding to images in the poem by mimicking or anticipating them.

The audio tracks shown here are just a few examples from a much larger series. The final project will either be presented as an installation piece in Norfolk or as a series of online videos.
