Object Blessing

for percussion duo (2026)

I imagined a kind of communion at a table: two people face each other and, like saying grace before a meal, acknowledge the materials in front of them, blessing each object as if it were food they were about to eat. The objects are arranged in rows around them, and each swipe across the row is like lighting a match, generating enough energy so that the music can begin.

Commissioned by Gémeaux Percussion Duo (Leo Shibanuma and Anzu Harigai). Premiered at Shibuya Cultural Centre Owada on 26 March 2026.
